The Hideous Righteous,
by J. W. Cassandra

This poem is my latest work. I wrote it a few days ago, and I just translated it into English. It can be counted among my poems that belong to the angel, the prophet, and the doomsday poems. In fact, these are scattered throughout my nineteen poetry books written so far, yet they form a whole, and each of them enriches the volume and cycle in which it is included with an important message. In addition, this poem is closely related to the other poem I published recently, The Call of the Righteous. Neither of them has been included in the volume so far, but I will place these two poems in the same cycle.
The present poem speaks of the Angel of Doomsday from among the Righteous, prophesied by the prophets. His name, by which the lyrical self addresses him, refers exactly to this: "Hideous Righteous". Only the sinners have anything to fear from him. The entire poem revolves around this, and the frame emphasizes the message.
Gloss: I first wrote it in English, and later, I translated it into Hungarian.
Hideous Righteous, at last, come to
light!
Hideous Righteous, let your light
shine bright!
And the Hideous Righteous came forth
to light,
And the Hideous Righteous' light shines bright!
The Hideous Righteous has returned
to judge,
His wand and scepter blaze like the sun.
The Hideous Righteous's eyes see
everything,
No sinners, no damned can hide, nothing.
The Hideous Righteous measures by
law –
Nothing can deceive him – he is the
law.
He judges sinners, brings justice
for the innocent –
Woe betide you if you had chased the innocent!
The Hideous Righteous does not hide
his face,
No longer hides his eyes, sees every
trace.
His wand and scepter catch up all
the sinners,
And that day will be the doom for former winners.
The Hideous Righteous will not hide
any more:
He has returned to judge - woe betide sinners, woe!
Hideous Righteous, at last, come to
light!
Hideous Righteous, let your light
shine bright!
And the Hideous Righteous came at
last to light,
And the Hideous Righteous' light shines bright!
